The following conditions must be met in order to apply for admission to any College of Education program. 

• Accumulate a minimum of 48 credits

• QPA = 2.8 or better (must be 3.0 by graduation)

• Successful completion of 6 credits college level math (113 or higher)

• Successful completion of 6 credits of English (1 composition & 1 literature)

• Successful completion of the School Based Observations packet (completed during SEFE 200)

• 20 contact hours with school-age children in a diverse setting documented and approved by advisor

• Proof of passing scores on Praxis I*

  • Passing scores Method 1:  Minimum scores: Reading=172, Writing=173, Math=173

  • Passing scores Method 2:  Must have both:  Minimum scores of Reading=171, Writing=170, Math=171 AND the three scores total 521 or more.

• Clear (no record) on Act 34 Criminal History Record Check

• Clear (no record) on Act 151 Child Abuse History

• Clear (no record) on FBI Background Check

• Negative TB screening

In addition, you will want to obtain a copy of the Teacher Education Policy Manual and a copy of the requirements for your area of certification. 

You must submit a completed admission application, signed by a faculty advisor, during the semester of your 48th credit.  November 1 and April 1 are admission application deadlines each year.  The application is available in McKay Education Building.

*Note: A preparation course is offered at Butler County Community College.  Also, additional PRAXIS tests will be required for your area of certification before student teaching.
