MESSAGE FROM THE INTERIM DEAN
Welcome to the College of Education at Slippery Rock University. Since its founding in 1889, Slippery Rock University has been preparing teachers, and we are proud of our graduates. Today, one in three students at SRU is a teacher education major, and we continue to offer teacher certification programs that are respected throughout Pennsylvania and the country.
We have outstanding faculty in our college, experts in their fields who are first and foremost teachers themselves. Our faculty mentor and guide students and help them prepare to teach anywhere in the nation. Graduates from our programs teach not only in Pennsylvania but all over the country, as seen at our Teacher Education Job Fairs where representatives from school districts from Hawaii and California, to North Carolina and Maryland, seek to employ SRU graduates.
Our students learn to become teachers not only in college classrooms, but also out in the field. As early as the sophomore year, education students are in area schools learning to put into practice the things they are learning in their courses. Field experiences include opportunities to teach in urban areas such as Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, rural and suburban areas, and some students even choose to student teach in international schools in Mexico City and Dublin, Ireland. Our students are presented with a myriad of opportunities and perspective employers appreciate their experience and preparation.
