The awarded Title II Teacher
Quality Enhancement Recruitment Grant will result in
changes in the recruitment, retention, teacher education
programs, classroom practice of K-12 teachers, and the
induction of novice teachers in central western
Pennsylvania. One main component of this grant will be
the recruitment of minority teacher candidates at
Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. The targeted
candidates will be senior level high school students
from Farrell Area School District, New Castle School
District, Sharon City School District, and the
Youngstown, Ohio School District. These students will
be pursuing a degree in education including elementary,
physical, secondary, or special education. The minority
students from these school districts may have otherwise
never applied for admission to Slippery Rock due to
financial considerations. The qualifying recipients of
the TQE-R grant will receive full tuition, room and
board, and fees through the third year that the grant is
in effect with the possibility of reapplication and
potential subsequent renewal for an additional three
years. The students applying for the scholarship will
be required to possess two of the three following
requirements: QPA of 3.0 or higher, class rank of 25% or
higher, or an SAT 930/ACT 19-20 or higher. This is a
unique opportunity for these students as well as for the
student population of Slippery Rock University. |
