The Women's Studies Newsletter:
FOCUS on Women's Issues

Beginning in 1970, faculty and students at Slippery Rock University published a women's movement newsletter, Lysistrata, which subsequently changed its name toThe Hand that Rocks the Rock; by 1973, the newsletter had shortened its title to The Hand and was privately funded and printed for two years. After a lapse, the Women's Studies newsletter FOCUS was started in 1977; its name has been recently extended to FOCUS on Women's Issues. The newsletter appears approximately six times during the regular academic year. FOCUS on Women's Issues prints and reprints news of interest and concern to women and men concerned about gender inequality at the university and throughout the country. It features news about Slippery Rock's Women's Studies Program, the Women's Center, and the President's Commission on Women; poetry; and commentary from students, faculty, and staff. FOCUS on Women's Issues welcomes related items from all members of the university and community. Subscriptions to the newsletter are free.
