In today's competitive job market, students who have studied overseas enhance their employment potential. Employers are always looking for individuals who are self-confident, independent, worldly, and knowledgeable of a multicultural global world. By studying and traveling in France, students will further these characteristics.

Cannes signed a formal agreement in 1990 that allows students to spend a semester, academic year, or summer studying in Cannes, France. The program is open to all SRU students regardless of academic majors and all coursework transfers to Slippery Rock as either major courses or general electives.

The program consists of a wide academic component centering on the intensive study of the French language and culture and affords the opportunity to take selected courses taught in English.

The College International de Cannes, founded in 1981, is a private institution of higher education dedicated to the teaching of the French language and civilization to students from all corners of the globe. It also prepares students for the internationally recognized diplomas of the Alliance Française and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris by offering 22 language courses and 14 specialized courses. The college is ideally located on the French Riviera, which allows their highly qualified team of educators to compliment purely academic learning with a wide variety of cultural activities. For this purpose, frequent trips are programmed to locations where history and everyday French life invariably meet: Roman ruins, old medieval towns, open markets, and the Cannes International Film Festival. The campus itself offers a congenial atmosphere where extra curricular services include a cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, TV room and activities office, library and much more. Today there are 2,500 students from all over the world studying at the college during the academic year and summer.

Located in the region of Provence, in southern France, Cannes is part of the beautiful French Riviera. The city's history is closely linked to that of the first French monastery in the off-shore Lerin Islands, whose abbots were Lords of Cannes. The resort's reputation, that Lord Brougham afforded it in the nineteenth century, has endured to this day. However, since 1939, Cannes is especially known as the "Home of the International Film Festival." Moreover, from Cannes, it is a short trip to many culturally important locations such as Grasse, the world capital of perfume; Antibes, Picasso's home; Camargue and its French cowboys; and the resort cities Nice and Monaco.

Academic study of the French language is the core of the College of International de Cannes. Intensive language of up to 15 hours per week is required of all students. Usually, students earn nine credits of French language and can earn up to six additional credits in English. Course offerings at the College of International de Cannes are:

  • French Society

  • History of Art

  • International Business
