This minor is designed to provide elementary education majors at SRU with the option of a specialization in art with an emphasis on translating studio experiences into the elementary classroom. The minor provides the student with an overview of and orientation to studio experience that will serve as the framework from which to teach art to elementary students.
One new course, Advanced topics in Art Education 93 credits) links studio art experiences to curriculum development using Discipline Based Art Education. As part of the course work, students will observe in a variety of educational settings.
Students attend a one-hour conference per week (non-credit) during the semesters that they take studio art classes.
