I (or my student) have forgotten my password, how can I get my password reset?
The Blackboard login page has a hyperlink called "Forgot Password." Click that link, fill in the basic identification form and submit. Your password will be reset to your default password (Birth date, in MMDDYY format), and you will receive an email verification of that password reset. This password reset is available to students as well.

Is there a handout or website that I can pass along to my students if they are new to Blackboard?
Yes. Please visit the student Blackboard FAQ website at:

http://academics.sru.edu/cfit/studentfaq.html

In addition to basic information about accessing Blackboard, there is also a link on this website to a "Getting Started in Blackboard" file (PDF format) that the student may print.

Why are students unable to find my course when they log into Blackboard?
All new empty course shells are now created and set as Unavailable . This allows an instructor to add content without the student accessing the course during the course content development period. When you are ready to make your course available to student view, you must:

1. Go to your instructor Control Panel
2. In the Course Options area, click Settings
3. On the list of setting categories, click on Course Availability
4. Select YES from the Make Course Available option, then click OK . Your course is now available to students and will be listed on their Blackboard list of courses.

Note: If your course is set as Available , and a specific student is unable to locate your course on their Blackboard listing, then this is a course enrollment issue. First, ensure that the student is appropriately enrolled in your course. Check your student enrollment in Blackboard to verify that the student is in fact enrolled in the blackboard course ( List/Modify Users option into Control Panel ).

If needed, you may manually enroll the student into your course by following these simple steps:

1. Go to your instructor Control Panel
2. In the User Management area, click Enroll User
3. Type in the student's Username , click Search
4. The student should be listed, if so, click the box next to the name and submit. The student should now be able to access your course. If you cannot locate the student, it may be an administrative system error. Contact the SRU Helpdesk at ext 4357

My course is not listed in the course catalogue located on the Blackboard log-on page, what should I do?

Each instructor must choose to list the course in a Course Catalogue category. To list your course follow these simple steps:

1. Go to your instructor Control Panel
2. In the Course Options area, click Settings
3. The sixth option on the list is Categorize Course , click this option. Do not click the first option with a similar sounding name.
4. Use the drop down menu to select a category for your course. Then click Add . You will see the category now listed on that page as a category that the course is listed in. You may add another category if you desire.

How can I get a Blackboard course for my organization (non-academic course)?

Can I change my Display Name in Blackboard to reflect my preferred name? (Example, John vs Johnathon)?
You (and your students) may change the Display Name shown in Blackboard (cannot change username). To change your Display Name, locate the Tools menu on the left side of the My Institution Tab. Click Personal Information and make the desired changes.

Can I save a copy of my course to my computer "just in case?"
1. Go to your instructor Control Panel
2. In the Course Options area , click Export Course

Note: the option to Copy Course is used to copy content only from one course on the Blackboard server into a new Blank course shell. This is useful when a new semester begins and you want content copied to your new empty course shell. This process is done completely with the Blackboard server and does not make a file for download.

The option to Archive Course will export a copy of your course content AND student interaction. This is useful after the course has been taught. A true archive of your course and student interactions. We expect to maintain old courses on the Blackboard for about two years, but a "just in case" Archive copy is a good idea.

3. A .zip file will be created (takes a few minutes if course is large) and you will be provided guidance on where to save
the file on your local computer.

How can I rename menu buttons, or turn off buttons menu buttons in Blackboard that I am not using?
It is a good idea to show only the menu buttons and tools that you will actually be using in your Blackboard course. To remove or rename a button, follow these steps:

1. Go to your instructor Control Panel
2. In the Course Options area, click Manage Course Menu
3. A list of your menu items appears, click Modify or Remove as appropriate.

2. You may also refer to the searchable help menu within Blackboard. Click Help on the top of any Blackboard page.
