This page is designed to provide SRU faculty with a list of all relevant, state-reported Blackboard 7.0 issues, their impact on SRU users, and updates on their resolution. This page will also provide SRU faculty with tips and clarifications on certain Blackboard tools and features. Issues will be removed from this page on the monday following resolution.
Blackboard Issues and Resolutions
Bb Rejecting Certain File Names
Reported Issue:
Blackboard is rejecting files that have spaces and special characters in their name.
Impact on SRU : Direct
Solution :
When saving files to be uploaded into Blackboard, do not use spaces or special characters (@#$-%&*/) in the file name. Example: Spring 2007-Homework.doc should be renamed as spring_2007_homework.doc
Gradebook Displays Blank Screen
Reported Issue:
Some faculty members have reported that when trying to access their gradebooks, Blackboard stops loading after a few moments and only displays a blank screen.
Impact on SRU:
Minor and intermittent. This problem has been reported to Blackboard and PASSHE. It is currently being investigated.
Background:If you encounter this issue, try using the "Gradebook Views" link from the "Assessment" group in the Control Panel.
Course Copy Bug
Reported Issue:
When using the "Course Copy into an Existing Course" tool, the option exists to use the "Browse" button to see a list of all courses you are currently teaching. If it is a long list, you must click "Next" to see another page. However, it has been reported that only a blank screen shows when advancing to the next page.
Impact on SRU:
Direct. This problem has been reported to Blackboard and PASSHE. It is currently being investigated.
Background:If you encounter this issue, do not use the "Browse" button to locate your destination course, but instead just type in the course ID using the standard format:
2008FALL..<department#><course#><section#>
Blackboard Issues and Resolutions
Running Totals
Running Totals is a Blackboard 7.0 Gradebook function which exempts un-graded items from the total points possible. This feature has caused some confusion as it changes to total points on a student-by-student basis.
If you have enable this feature, the heading Running Total will appear in the second to last column of your Gradebook.
To disable this feature, click on the Running Total heading, select Item Information, and check "no" next to the line that reads "Exempt items that have not been graded."
You can also disable the Running Total feature item by item by adding a zero (0) value for the item to be "nonexempt.
