Nola Nolen is the ballet specialist for the Department of Dance.
Additionally, she teaches Introduction to Dance, Principles of Dance Production,
Dance History I, Music for Dance (for which she is currently writing a text, Dance
and Music: The Elements and History for Dancers, Practicum II, and Senior Synthesis.
Ms. Nolen received a B.F.A. in ballet pedagogy and an M.F.A. in dance from the University
of Oklahoma. She danced professionally with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre in both classical
ballets and contemporary works by choreographers such as Ruth

Page, Frederic Franklin,
Leonide Massine, Stuart
Sebastian, and John Taras. Additionally, Ms. Nolen has studied
composition with Liz Lerman and the Dance Exchange in Washington,
D.C. Ms. Nolen sets choreography extensively on SRU Dance Theatre
students and, in September 1998, presented a benefit concert of her
work both on campus and in Asheville, North Carolina. She is the
recipient of numerous grant awards in choreography, research, and
professional development.
