Alumni Scholarship in Geology

The Department invites applications for a geology scholar award.  This award, funded by the Slippery Rock University Geology Alumni Scholarship Fund, will be given each year to a qualified applicant.  With yearly application and successful competition, the scholar may continue to receive this grant until graduation.

The purpose of the award is to promote competition, continued scholarship, and academic achievement, as well as to encourage participation in department and professional geologic activities.

Amount of Award: $1,400 ($700/semester)

Criteria: 

Must be a current major in Geology. To receive and to maintain the scholarship requires an overall minimum QPA of 3.0 and a minimum Geology QPA of 3.25.  Must have a minimum 8 credits of Geology courses at Slippery Rock University. May include Geology 101, 111, 102, 112 and any other Geology course at the 200 level or above.  Other criteria:  involvement, service, and participation in departmental and professional activities will be considered.

Application:  

  • Write an essay (250 words or less) describing your geologic interests and career goals.
  • Complete the application form (click here for the form).
  • Submit the essay and application form by March 17 to Cindy Schnur in 319 Advanced Technology and Science Hall.
