Learning isn’t restricted to the confines of campus. If you see the world as a text to be read, explored, and enjoyed, the Honors Program is right for you! Whether you want to travel abroad or stay nearby, the program has somewhere for you to go!

Students who decide not to travel with other classes during Spring Break have the option of traveling with the Annual Honors Program Spring Trip. This trip is an expenses paid travel opportunity (except dining) available to ALL members of the Honors Program. Past destinations included Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Washington D.C.; and Savannah, GA!

During the Spring semester, the Honors Program offers the "Honors Great Books" course, and other Honors courses that include an international travel component. Students who enroll, travel over Spring Break to the country that is the focus of the course content. SRU subsidizes trips, making them more affordable! Past courses included "Exploration of the Holocaust (Germany)," "Latin American History (in Panama)," "Galileo (Italy)," "The Communication Age (London)," "United States and Canada (Yellowstone National Park)" and "Shakespeare (Stratford, Canada)."

SRU Honor Students present at the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference every Fall and the regional National Collegiate Honors Council Conference every Spring, with participants presenting with honors organizations across the country. Past locations include San Antonio, TX; Denver, CO; and Morrisontown, NJ.

Every summer, two students from the Honors Program participate in a five-week Honors Program sponsored by one of the fourteen SSHE universities. The application process is a competitive one but well worth the effort, because those students who are chosen to participate attend classes for two weeks at the host university before departing for an international educational component where they link what they've learned on campus with field-based experiences. Each student who participates receive a full scholarship covering the cost of tuition, room and board, travel, and required field trips. During the international portion, a minimum of two meals per day are provided.

Recent SSHE Summer Honors Programs have traveled to Spain, France, Scotland, and South Africa. Student participants describe the program as "life-altering," "utterly amazing," and "enriching beyond belief." Courses in the program are organized thematically and focus on a particular issue - for instance, "The Scottish Enlightenment," in one case, and "A South African Vision: A Call to Citizen Leadership in Nation Building" in another. More information on the Study Abroad program is available from International Services.
