Mailbox Cleanup Procedures

Internet Explorer
  • Delete items from your inbox that are large in size or old items.
    • Sort your inbox by email size and delete large emails.

  • Any items you've deleted from your inbox or other folders sits in your "Deleted Items" folder.
    • Click on "Deleted Items" on the left side.
    • Make sure "Messages" is selected beside "Deleted"Items" at the top of the page:
    • Click on the trashbin icon which should say
    • That should have deleted ALL items from the trash, which often frees up a gracious amount of space.

  • Delete Junk E-mail.
    • Click on "Junk E-mail" on the left side.
    • Make sure "Messages" is selected beside "Junk E-mail" at the top of the page:
    • Click on the trashbin icon which should say

  • Delete Sent Items
    • Click on "Sent Items" on the left side.
    • Make sure "Messages" is selected beside "Sent Items" at the top of the page:
    • Sort emails by size - Click on the column that says "Size."
    • Delete these emails; especially ones that are over 100KB.

  • Delete Drafts
    • Click on "Drafts" on the left side
    • Make sure "Messages" is selected beside "Drafts" at the top of the page:
    • Delete these emails

  • Recover accidentally deleted items - If you've accidentally deleted an email that you shouldn't have, you can recover those items.
    • Click on "Options" on the left side.
    • Scroll down to the bottom where it says "Recover Deleted Items" - Click "View Items."
    • A window should have popped up with the title "Recover Deleted Items = Webpage Dialog."
    • From this window, you can select the emails you wish to recover. Any emails you recover are moved to your "Deleted Items" folder.
