Backing Up Eudora
For
Windows and Macintosh Users
(On-Campus)
Why
You Should Back Up Your E-Mail:
The mail server at SRU is not backed up on a regular basis. When you download
your mail, it is removed permanently from the server. If you have important
email that you do not want to lose in the event of hardware or software failure,
then create back up copies on a floppy disk.
How to Back Up Your
Files:
- Locate your Eudora folder and
mailbox files.
This folder is located somewhere on
your hard drive. Windows95/98/ME/2000 users may find the folder under Program
Files (Macintosh users may locate the folder under the system folder).
- Copy the .mbx and .toc files to
disk.
Within the Eudora folder will be two
files that correspond to each mailbox. One file will have an .mbx
extension, and the other will have a .toc extension. For
instance, the "In" mailbox will have two related files - in.mbx
and in.toc. Copy both of these files to the disk for each
mailbox that you are backing up (both of these files can be opened with a text
editor for review).
To Restore Your Files (if you lose
files due to a system crash or other problem):
- Copy the .mbx & .toc files from
the back up disk to the Eudora folder on your hard drive.
- When you
overwrite the existing files or add new mailbox files to the Eudora folder, they
will appear in the application. Do not overwrite existing mailboxes that have
materials you want to retain.
