Performing Microsoft Windows Update:
**Windows 2000 Users: In order to perform a ?Windows Update ** on your computer, you must be an
?administrator? of the computer. ?Windows Update will not run otherwise. With SRU computers, if
you are a staff or faculty, your are an administrator to your own computer only. Make sure an
administrator of the computer is logged on before performing ?Windows Update? **

Note: If this is the first time you are performing a Windows Update, a Security window will appear, asking you to grant permission for Microsoft to download and install updates into your computer. Check the box ?Always trust content from Microsoft Corportation? and click YES.

3. Internet Explorer will guide you to Microsoft?s Windows Update Home Page. Once there, click on ?
?in the left navigation bar.
?in the corresponding window.

4. Once Microsoft finished scanning for available updates, it will display all the updates that are able to be downloaded and installed, in the left hand side of the browser
. Remember, your computer will return different available updates depending on how often you perform these updates.

Click on the ? Review and install updates (
)? button to install all available updates.

6. When Microsoft finished with the downloading, a License Agreement window will pop up. Click ?Accept?.

7. Windows will now download and install the select updates.

8. Certain updates will require that you restart the computer to be able to install the next update. You MUST restart the computer if this window pops up. After your computer restart. Go back to step 1 and repeat the process.

Note: Depending on how often you perform Windows Update, these tune ups may take longer than usual. Please allow ample time when you run Windows Update for the first time.
