For Windows Users (On-Campus and Off-Campus)

For security reasons, your SRUNET password expires every 100 days. The system will prompt you with a reminder to change your password several days before its expiration. Follow these instructions to change your password in an SRU computer lab or from home. To change your password on Windows, either call the Help Desk or follow these instructions. Mac users - please not that you cannot change your password from a Macintosh computer.

From the Computer Labs:

  1. Press the keys ctrl, alt & delete at the same time.

  1. A dialog box will appear, click on "Change Password."
  1. A box will ask you for three passwords. In the first box type your old password, and in the next two boxes type your new password.

  1. Click "OK."

  1. Your network password has been changed, but it may take up to fifteen minutes until it goes into effect.
    Do not test it immediately.

Off Campus Users

From a Windows 95/98/2000/XP computer that is logged into SRUNET:

  1. Confirm that you are logged into SRUNET. Click on the "My Computer" icon on the Windows 95/98 desktop.

  1. A window will appear that will display all of your drives (both local and network).

    If there is a (H: and/or I :) drive, then you are logged into SRUNET, continue to the next step. If there is no (H: or I :) drive then you are not logged into SRUNET, and cannot change your password from that computer. Refer to the "How to Connect to the H: & I: Drives" information sheet, or call the Help Desk for assistance.

  1. Click on the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your screen.

  1. Hold the mouse over "Settings."

  1. Click on "Control Panel."

  1. Click on the icon that says "Passwords;" it will display a window similar to the one below:

 

  1. Click on "Change Other Passwords." A window similar to the one below will be shown:

     

  1. Click on "Microsoft Networking."

  1. Click on "Change."

  1. A box will ask you for three passwords. In the first box, type your old password; in the next two boxes type your new password. Create a new password that is between 6-8 characters. Do not use your last three passwords.

  1. Click "OK."

  1. Your network password has been changed, but it may take up to fifteen minutes until it goes into effect.
