This tutorial demonstrates basic research techniques for locating periodical articles in a journal database.  Journal databases provide citations, abstracts, and full text for periodical, magazine, and newspaper articles.  The library subscribes to journal databases from a variety of vendors on a variety of subjects (click here to look at Library databases by subject, vendor, or alphabetically).   Each database has unique characteristics, but some general principles apply to all.  Here are some important things to remember as you complete the tutorial.

You will be working through 4 basic steps:

  • Definitions and Decisions
  • Search Strategies
  • Parts of a Citation
  • Working with Results

You will be writing information on a worksheet as you progress through the tutorial.  When you have completed the steps and have finished filling in your worksheet, give it to your professor or the librarian at the Information Desk.

This icon indicates points in the tutorial when you will need to write answers on your worksheet.
