You can also post messages to the group.  Mailing lists can be very helpful for exchanging information, making contacts, finding resources, support, and the answers to difficult questions.  Some listservs post job openings.

Some basic tips:  In most cases, you subscribe to a listserv by sending an e-mail message to the list which simply says "subscribe" and the name of the listserv or your name.  To unsubscribe, reverse the process.  If you are on a very active list, you might have the option of setting the mail to "digest," so you are not flooded with e-mail.  It is a good idea to "lurk"... to read messages and get a feel for the lsit before posting your own.  Follow the directions for individual listservs.
