Basic Library Research--FYRST

Successful research starts at the library’s home page:

To find a book by title, author, subject, or keyword, search the library catalog

Most books in Bailey Library are arranged by Library of Congress classification numbers. Call numbers that start with A-PQ are shelved on the second floor; those that start with PR-Z are on the third floor.
Books in the Instructional Materials Center (located on the second floor) are arranged by Dewey Decimal classification numbers.
Most books can be checked out for four weeks; reference books must be used in the library.
To renew your books or see a complete list of all materials you have checked out, check your patron record in the library catalog. Simply click on the LOGIN button, key in your last name and the 16 digit number on the front of your ID that begins: 6277, then click on MY ACCOUNT.

To find out if the library owns or has full-text access to a magazine, scholarly journal, or newspaper, search the library catalog by journal title.

Current journals are housed in the journal section in the back of the reference room.
Current newspapers are housed in the reading room or on the shelves with current journals.
Bound journals are housed on the third floor.
Microfilm and microfiche are housed in the journal section in the back of the reference room.
Those titles that include a reference to an “Online resource,” provide you with links to one or more databases that include the full text of articles from that title.

To find journal articles on your subject, search in one or more of the databases to which the library subscribes. To start, choose the Databases A-Z link from the library’s homepage.

To order a copy of a BOOK that the library does not own, choose Interlibrary Loan from the library’s homepage. Either EZBorrow or UBorrow allows you to search for and request books from other libraries. If those options don’t work, complete an interlibrary loan form.

To order a copy of a JOURNAL article that the library does not have access to, complete an interlibrary loan form.
