On his scholarly publications

Other than being thrilled from teaching mathematics, Dr. Forrest has also done some other interesting things. Here are some highlights.

Faculty advisor, since 1998, of several joint students / faculty research projects. The joint research paper, entitled: "Exponential Prediction Models Based On Sequence Operators", will appear in Kybernetes: The International Journal of Systems and Cybernetices, 2001.

Students Co-Authors: Roman DeNu (Inforfation Systems Major), and William Mennell (Computer Science Major)

Currently, the research group is working on "chaos" and related subject matters. Both the participating students and Dr. Forrest have had a great experience. If interested, drop a line here

Since 1995, Dr. Forrest has been the president and director of the International Institute for General Systems Studies, Inc.

Education Backgrouund

Dr. Forrest earned his Ph.D. in mathematics (specialized in general topology) at Auburn University, Alabama, USA, in 1988. During 1990-1991, he did a little bit of post-doctoral studies in statistics at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA.

Community Activities
1. Co-chair of three international conferences;
2. Member of the organization committee of nine regional, national or international conferences;
3. Member of the editorial boards of six international journals and a book series in numerical analysis;
4. Guest editor of eight special journal issues;
5. Author of a book entitled "General Systems Theory - A Mathematical Approach" (1999), published by Kluwer Academic and Plenum Publishers.
6. Co-author of a book, entitled: "An Introduction to Grey Systems: Foundations, Methodology, and Applications", published by the IIGSS Academic Publisher, 1998.

Research Activities

As of this date, Dr. Forrest has published over one hundred-fifty research works, covering a wide range of scientific disciplines, including, but not limited to, numerical analysis, mathematical modeling, mathematical and general systems theory and applications, statistics, regional economics, nonlinear analysis and applications, management science, philosophy of science, pedagogy, etc.

His philosophy of research is "Use knowledge in a way beneficial to all residents of this globe, which is not necessarily consistent with the prevalent believes". That is how he has made so many close friends from different corners of the world.

Hobbies

Sports, Music, Literature, Games, and Travel.

For example, even though he is short, Dr. Forrest likes to play basketball. Although he used to be fast and an accurate shooter, now, he has been slow and could hardly score a point or two. But, he still enjoys the sport.

In terms of travel, only international travels are counted as travels. Here are some highlights:

A. In April 1996, and December, 1999, Dr. Forrest visited Bahamas. That was a great place to go.

B. In August, 1997, Dr. Forrest visited Berlin, Germany, for a month.

C. During the summer of 1998, Dr. Forrest traveled around the globe once.

D. In the summer of 1999, Dr. Forrest visited his homeland China.

E. In the summer of 2000, Dr. Forrest could have visited Berlin the second time. But, it was no fun for him to travel alone. So, he did not go. What a waste of an opprotunity?!!!

F. In February, 2001, Dr. Forrest will visit India. He has learned that India could be as hot as in a sauna.

G. In the summer of 2001, Dr. Forrest will visit China again. This time, it will be with his entire family.
