September 25, 2009: Samantha Corvino, Amanda Eplett, and Karissa
King were awarded one-year memberships to the Association for Women in Mathematics. Dominic Currie, Christopher
Chatham, Dennis Pace, and Kent Uber were awarded one-year memberships to the American Mathematical Society. |

teaching at a school in Mexico City. |

August 2009: Ben Pearce passed Exam FM for the Society of

Actuaries. This is the second exam in the sequence, and passing this exam is a major accomplishment.

June-July 2009: Samantha Corvino was selected as one of twelve
participants for the research experiences for undergraduate students at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
There were over 100 applicants to this program! |

April 16, 2009: Matt Bellala, Samantha Corvino, Nathan Leidwinger,
Djordje Petkovic, Ryan Smail, and Jesse Waldorf were inducted into KME, the math honor society. |

April 14, 2009: Two teams from SRU received meritorious rankings
for their partication in the mathematical modeling competition. Over 1,600 teams entered the competition, and
the meritorious ranking is reserved for those in the top 18%. The members of the first team were Djordje Petkovic,
Jesse Waldorf, and Josh White; and the members of the second team were David Allen, Samantha Corvino, and Ben Pearce.

March 26, 2009: Dr. Richard DeVeaux of Williams College
gave two presentations related to statistics. The first talk was about data mining featuring applications
of statistics, and the second talk was about teaching statistics to the general audience. |

March 17, 2009: The students challenged the faculty to a
bowling match. It was pretty close in the end, but the best bowler was definitely a student! |

February 21, 2009: Several SRU students attended the Pi Mu Epsilon
conference held at Youngstown State University which featured a full program of student talks. Slippery Rock's own
Samantha Corvino presented a talk on a problem she had worked on. |

Tatra Mountains Mathematical Publications, and he was also invited to speak at the EPaDel Fall Meeting of
the MAA. |

in Portland, OR. Dr. Miller helped organize the student talks and poster session while Dr. Bouchat was a participant
in Project NExT (a national professional development program for recent PhD's). |
