Jeremy Long

Jeremy Long is currently Assistant Professor at Slippery Rock University, where he teaches saxophone, clarinet, chamber music performance, jazz history, and directs several jazz combos. He has held positions in saxophone and jazz studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Northern Kentucky University, the University of Louisville, and Miami University in Oxford, OH. He has a BM in performance from the University of Kentucky and a MM in jazz studies from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music. His primary teachers were Rick VanMatre, Miles Osland, Brad Goode, Paul Piller, and Phil DeGreg.

 

 

As a classical saxophonist, Long has performed with the Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Symphony, Richmond (IN) Symphony, Kentucky Symphony, Dayton Philharmonic, and Lexington Philharmonic Orchestras. He has performed in the Linton Chamber Music Series with members of the CSO, INTY Contemporary Music Series, premiered one new work for saxophone quartet at the 2000 World Saxophone Congress and two new works at the 2004 Biennial North American Saxophone Alliance conference, and has performed on many other NASA conferences including a featured night performance in Chicago. He will be a featured soloist with the Miami University Percussion Ensemble on a concert in November ’07 and their next CD release. He has also recorded two CDs with the Osland Saxophone Quartet for Sea Breeze.

 

As a jazz saxophonist, he has performed with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Michael Feinstein, New York Voices, Louis Bellson, former Stan Kenton & Woody Herman drummer John Von Ohlen, Phil DeGreg, and the Vince DiMartino Jazz Orchestra. With the jazz-influenced saxophone quartet Mega-Sax, he has been on the cover of the Saxophone Journal and recorded three CDs for Sea Breeze. He was an artist/scholar in residence at the University of Cincinnati-Clermont College to coordinate a seven-week series entitled “Looking At: Jazz, America’s Art Form.” He has also been a guest artist and/or clinician at the Victoria (TX) Jazz Festival, Dayton Jazz Festival, and guest director of the 2006 Ohio District 14 Honor Jazz Ensemble.

 

Long has also played with pop artists Ray Charles and The Temptations, as well as in premiere productions of musicals at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and Dayton’s Loft Series at the Human Race Theatre Company. He is a published composer with Walrus Music Publishing and has written compositions and arrangements for big band, jazz sextet, jazz quartet, and five saxophones plus rhythm.
