Stacey Graham Steele

Stacey Graham Steele is currently an Assistant Professor of Music at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania where she was awarded the 2007 Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching. At SRU Ms. Steele teaches Applied Flute, University Flute Choir, Chamber Flutes and Elementary School Music. She Graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor's degree in Music Education and received a Master of Music in Flute Performance degree from the University of North Texas where she studied with Mary Karen Clardy and Sue Calebaugh. Other teachers have included Leone Buyse, Bernard Goldberg and Julius Baker. Ms. Steele has obtained graduate level certification credits in the Orff and Kodaly methodologies of music education.

Ms. Steele performs frequently in solo and chamber music recitals, including being a former member of the Butler Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Wind Quintet. She has combined her love of travel with having been selected to perform as a soloist for several International Festival of Women Composers conferences, a Women and Creativity Conference, and College Music Society International Conferences in Kyoto, Japan, Limerick, Ireland, Madrid, Spain, and Quebec City, Quebec. She is actively involved in the National Flute Association and has appeared at NFA annual conventions on numerous occasions as a performer, conductor, or pedagogy panelist. In 2006, she was chosen to conduct the NFA National High School Flute Choir.

As a teacher, Ms. Steele's philosophy for her flute studio is to provide an environment of friendly competition, where the students feel safe to grow as musicians and take musical risks with her guidance and the encouragement and support of the other flutists.
