Many students, who enjoy learning about the outdoors and enjoy sharing that knowledge with others, choose a career in environmental education. Slippery Rock's graduates in this field are working as camp directors and classroom teachers, as environmental educators with federal and state agencies, and in local conservation districts.

Curriculum

Environmental education students take a program of study, which includes a cross-section of courses from a number of departments across the campus. Student teaching and specialized courses give environmental education students a variety of teaching experiences with young people in kindergarten through high school. The McKeever Environmental Learning Center and Jennings Environmental Education Center are used by our students.

Internships

Students can choose a course of study leading to a PDE K-12 certification in environmental education or opt for a more field-based program with no certification. Students in this option would choose to do an internship rather than student teaching and modify specific course selections.

Careers

Students wishing to pursue a more resource-oriented approach to environmental education can choose the Environmental Education/Interpretation specialization within the Parks and Resource Management major.
