OUTLINE OF A PROSPECTUS

Department of Parks and Recreation/ Environmental Education
The prospectus is a proposal
for a thesis. It consists of:
I. INTRODUCTION
· Statement of the Problem—identify and describe the
problem and why it is a problem.
· Objectives of the Study—identify the specific objectives
of the study.
· Justification for the Study—identify why the study
is important and the anticipated uses of the results.
· Limitations—identify those imposed from outside the
study, those not under your control.
· Delimitations—identify any self-imposed limitations.
· Definitions—of important terms and concepts.
II. LITERATURE REVIEW
A preliminary review of pertinent literature, dealing with the study,
methodology and the topic of the study.
III. METHODOLOGY
A description of how and when the study is to be undertaken. Include
a detailed description of the procedures to be followed through
planning, study, analysis and report phases as well as a time schedule
and cost estimate.
IV. LITERATURE CITED (BIBLIOGRAPHY)
Identify, in the proper format, all sources cited in the Introduction,
Literature Review, or Methodology sections. (A bibliography may
also be included in the appendices to identify other sources consulted,
but not cited in the text sections.)
V. APPENDICES
Include items such as: Contact and follow-up letters
Questionnaire(s)
Interview form(s)
Lists of subjects
Diagram of experimental design (test plots, etc.)
NOTE: Call or write your
thesis advisor whenever you have questions concerning format, style,
or other matters relative to the prospectus.
