Program Director - Dr. John F. Lisco

In the 1970's the National Park Service recognized the need for additional ranger staffing during the summer months. Several Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Programs were established across the nation to fill this need. Among them were: Santa Rosa Junior College, The University of Memphis, and... Slippery Rock University. Slippery Rock University has over 30 years of experience in training quality students to perform in exceptional ways. The University is very proud of its history regarding the program and also very proud if its alumni. The program at Slippery Rock University is one of ten in the United States and is one of only two that is offered by a four-year institution.

Curriculum

Students take a series of five three-hour courses (15 total credit hours) over two consecutive semesters. The program is based on an integrated academic model which allows students to pursue other courses for their degree program while in ranger training. The 325-hour curriculum is certified by the National Park Service and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

Careers

There has never been a better time to start a career in this field. For most agencies, the pay has increased significantly over the last ten years. Coupled with the advanced pay, many land management agencies are experiencing, or expect to experience, significant retirements in the next 2-6 years. This means that students coming in have an excellent opportunity to get a super job with good pay.
