Curriculum
Students have the opportunity
to strengthen their expertise in four areas of concentration--Park
and The Bachelor of Science degree emphasis in Therapeutic
Recreation supplements a solid liberal studies foundation
with course work related to human development/growth and
movement. Therapeutic Recreation courses provide a comprehensive
background and training in current recreation therapy practices.
Minors are also available in related areas such as gerontology,
exceptionalities, psychology, and sociology.

Internships
Students participate in a
12 credit hour internship where they work 40 hours per week
for 15 weeks in a private or public agency. Many fieldwork
practicums, and a culmination internship assist students
in gaining experience in a TR setting prior to graduation.
In addition, students may choose from several specialty
tracks which offer focused coursework to enhance knowledge
and skills in a given area. Such areas include mental health,
rehabilitation, corrections, gerontology, and community.

Careers
Trained professionals are
employed in a variety of settings including mental health
agencies, physical medicine rehabilitation hospitals, substance
abuse/chemical dependency programs, nursing homes, schools,
and community programs.
