Gordon R. Phetteplace - Gordon Phetteplace is the department's scenic and lighting designer, and the theatre department chairman.
Phetteplace earned his master of fine arts degree in drama from the University of Montana
and his Bachelor of Arts degree in theater drama at Lawrence University. Previous to working
for SRU, Phetteplace was an assistant professor of theater and served as department chair and
chair of the university curriculum committee at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.
He also has extensive professional theater experience, including work in central Michigan
as a freelance designer/technician and a designer in regional theater. His experience also
includes serving as scenic designer/production coordinator and adjunct professor of theater
for Lansing community College where he handled scene design, lighting design, scenic/lighting
technology and taught both technical theater and general education related theater courses.
Phetteplace has used his talents at the Millbrook Playhouse and as co-founder and art director
of M&J Productions in Lansing, Mich. He has also served as technical director/staff
designer at Boarshead Michigan PublicTheater in Lansing and as technical director for
the Montana Repertory Theater. He was scenic and lighting designer for such plays
as The Music Man, Noises Off, Crimes of the Heart, Oklahoma, Grease, Snoopy, A Midsummer
Night's Dream, You Can't Take it With You, Sylvia,
